    THE BIGGER PICTURE

From the perspective of Reschke, who also worked as a manager at Bayer Leverkusen for many years, Wirtz's move to Bayern would therefore be a "disadvantage for the Bundesliga." As a result, a possible transfer of the young star from Leverkusen to Munich must be viewed "with mixed feelings."

For Bayern, who have repeatedly expressed their interest in Wirtz in public, Reschke sees only advantages. With the 21-year-old, they would have a "much, much better chance of winning the Champions League," he said, adding with regard to the quality of the midfield around Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala: "Then you're sensational in the centre of the game."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Recent reports from Germany revealed that Bayern are preparing to implement drastic cost-cutting measures to fund Wirtz's transfer this summer. Indeed, it has been reported that the entire operation of the German international's arrival could cost Die Roten around €250 million (£210m/$280m).
